Dunedin Energy Systems Ltd.

Dunedin Energy Systems Ltd. was founded to bring the many benefits of nuclear energy to markets that have traditionally been thought of as too small or too remote to be served by nuclear energy; particularly in the Canadian arctic. The people at Dunedin Energy Systems recognize the need for a small, safe, clean and cost effective energy source to serve isolated or off grid communities in Canada and around the world. Initially sized at 5 megawatts, the SMART energy system can provide safe, reliable, zero emissions electricity and steam heat at a fraction of the cost of existing diesel fuelled systems. Continuing development will enable SMART to run between 500 kilowatts and 10 megawatts, or in a co-generation mode producing both electricity and high grade heat.

Apart from the obvious benefit of greater independence and self-sufficiency, the advantages of SMART electricity and heat will create new opportunities in light industry, greenhouse agriculture and employment in the remote communities it serves. Isolated mine sites and other resource extraction industries will have access to abundant, low cost energy and be largely freed from the costly and difficult effort of diesel re-supply.
